Aromatherapy Awareness Week is taking place between 8th-14th June, and this year the theme is all about the anti-viral properties of essential oils.
Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils and plant extracts to treat a variety of different conditions. It can be used to bring harmony to a persons mind, body and soul.
The oils can be used for massaging, in creams, lotions and oils for applying to your body, in baths, steam inhalation, aromatic spritzers, diffusions and inhalations.
The International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) created this annual campaign with the aim to raise awareness of the benefits of aromatherapy. Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, this week focuses on raising awareness of how essential oils can improve hygiene, boost immunity and support the respiratory system, as well as assisting with the psychological effects this unprecedented situation is having on mental health.

Marjoram is reputed to fight against viruses that affect the ear, nose and throat, and also the skin. A great all-rounder, it also helps to fight fungal infections.
According to a laboratory study, lemon balm contains ingredients that may even help prevent one type of bird flu virus from reproducing.
Ravensara is a powerful antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral, used for internal and skin conditions. It can treat excess mucous or phlegm in the respiratory tract.
Remember it is always important to dilute essential oils before using on the skin, as they are extremely potent and can irritate the skin. It is best to dilute a few drops in a carrier, or base oil. Also do not take the oils by mouth.
