Dear Diary...

Getting things off your mind by writing them down does wonders to help you relax. When you feel stressed, take a few minutes to write down some short notes about how you’re feeling or how your day is going.

You might do this in a notebook or in a notes app on your smartphone. Or you could use your laptop or even an old typewriter, whatever feels best for you

Don’t worry about being poetic or spelling everything correctly. Just focus on expressing yourself to help release some of your stress.

Are you feeling angry? Sad? Or are you really happy or in love? This works for all these kind of situations as it can help you get some perspective of how you’re feeling that way and why.

What are you grateful for?

Another way to use writing to help you relax is to make a list about all the things you’re grateful for.

Experts say that when we’re stressed, we tend to focus on the negative parts of life rather than the positive. Thinking about the positive parts of your life and writing them down may help you chill out.

At the end of your day, try to think of at least three good things that happened to you today and write them down, even if they’re small things like getting to work on time, eating a delicious lunch, or that cute guy in accounting smiling at you.

Or you could do this at the beginning of your day. What are you truly grateful for? You’ve got an amazing boyfriend making your breakfast for you right now, you’ve got a cute dog who will do anything to spend some time with you. You’ve got a stunning view outside your window. The sun is shining. The rain is falling and feeding your garden.

Every cloud has a silver lining, and there's so much to be grateful for, so whenever you're feeling down, negative  or stressed, writing down your thoughts or making a list of what you are grateful for really will help.
